California Bike Accidents
The state of California sees around 11,000 injuries per year that are the result of bicycle accidents. Additionally, more than 100 people are killed in these wrecks. Bicycle crashes are more injurious than other types of traffic collisions due to the lack of protection bicyclists display while traveling. Larger, faster vehicles pose a real threat to bicyclists if they become involved in a traffic accident. Bicyclists are some of the most vulnerable travelers on the road. Other drivers should always be aware and cautious when driving near them.
It is important for drivers to always make eye contact with cyclists and vice versa. Especially if one needs to cross the path of the other. Failure to make eye contact may cause an accident that could end in injuries or death for the person on the bike. In 2018, approximately 155 people were killed in California bike accidents while over 11,000 more were injured.
Oftentimes, cyclists who are hurt in traffic wrecks need emergency medical care that can be expensive. They may also be forced to spend time out of work and stuck in the hospital in order to fully recover. This can cause further financial stress on the injured victim.
