Fatal Auto Accidents in California
Over the past few years, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people who use electric scooters to travel throughout the state of California. The growing number of riders is met with an unfortunate increase in the number of people harmed in crashes with them.
A study of two local emergency departments shows that more than 250 people are hurt in scooter accidents in our state. These incidents often result in severe injuries for victims. Some of the most common injuries we see include:
- Over 27.7% of victims suffer cuts, sprains, and bruises
- 2% of victims suffer bone fractures, which can be severe
- More than 31.7% of victims suffer some type of head trauma
Although helmets can provide some protection to people who utilize e-scooters, less than 4.5% of riders actually utilize them. Not only are people being harmed at an alarming rate, but we also see many families torn apart after losing loved ones in crashes involving e-scooters.
