Downey, CA (March 10, 2022) – Police in Downey were called to the scene of a fatal car crash that occurred on the night of March 5. The wreck reportedly took the life of one 17-year-old male and seriously injured two others.
According to reports, the fatal wreck happened at around 10:50 p.m. Saturday in the southbound lanes of the Santa ana Freeway, north of the San Gabriel River Freeway. Official reports indicate that a 2010 gray Nissan Altima driven by the 17-year-old from Compton struck a curb after swerving to the right, exited the roadway, and then collided with a metal pole.
The Nissan then continued to roll 200 yards down a dirt embankment where it rolled several times before coming to a stop. The two passengers were ejected from the vehicle due to the crash.
All three males were transported to St. Francis Medical Center with severe injuries. One passenger was declared deceased. Police officials in Downey continue to investigate.
