Corona, CA (April 3, 2022) – One person lost their life Thursday morning, March 31, in a severe traffic collision in Corona. According to reports, the accident happened at about 1 a.m.
Sources say the collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway near Green River Road. It involved a semi-truck, a work truck, and a car.
CHP responded to the scene in the early morning hours of March 31 to find a big rig with a white trailer on the side of the road on fire. The semi had collided with a 2010 Volvo that previously collided with a work truck that was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway.
The driver of the Volvo then veered back into traffic before they were struck by the semi-truck. The Volvo driver was pronounced deceased on-site by paramedics.
His identity has not been released at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with everyone involved.
Truck Crashes in California
In 2016, around 475,000 commercial truck accidents were reported in the United States. The leading cause of these accidents was reportedly human error. Truck drivers are often overworked and exhausted, endangering those they encounter on the road. There are currently over 11 million trucks actively operating in the United States. A large percentage of these trucks are most likely operated by fatigued, overworked drivers who carry dangerous loads.
It can be terrifying to be involved in a traffic collision with a commercial truck due to the sheer size and weight of these vehicles. Semis are approximately 20 times heavier than your average passenger car. Oftentimes, those who are hurt in crashes with semi-trucks are more severely injured than those who are hurt in accidents involving smaller vehicles.
Being hurt in a traffic accident involving a semi can be a devastating event in a person’s life. If you or a loved one of yours has been hurt in a truck accident, you are most likely painfully aware of the difficult consequences that usually come with the aftermath of your wreck, involving emotional, physical, and financial hardship.
