California Pedestrian Accidents
Hundreds of thousands of people are hurt in traffic accidents in California every year. A percentage of these victims are not even traveling inside vehicles when they sustain injuries. On the contrary, pedestrians walk or ride their bikes on sidewalks and roadways across the Golden State.
Tens of thousands of people are hospitalized with serious injuries due to pedestrian collisions. Injured pedestrians require emergency medical care and usually have to spend a lot of time in the hospital in order to fully recover. Depending on the severity of an accident, the chances of life-threatening and life-altering injuries may be higher.
Because pedestrians are virtually unprotected while they travel, when they become involved in traffic accidents with vehicles, they are often more severely injured than the occupants inside of cars, trucks, vans, and other vehicles. Pedestrians often suffer injuries like broken bones, spinal cord injuries, and brain injuries, to name a few. These types of injuries are often severe and require extensive medical care.
Oftentimes, auto collisions are the result of driver negligence. Examples of driver negligence include texting and driving, intoxicated driving, choosing to ignore traffic control devices and rules, speeding, and distracted driving. When people sustain injuries due to the negligence of other drivers, their best bet is to consult with a pedestrian crash lawyer in California.
