According to federal prosecutors, Byrom Zuniga Sanchez, a 34-year-old former Laguna Niguel resident, was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison after making repeated death threats against an Orange County judge who presided over his child custody case.
Prosecutors stated that the threats occurred between May and July of 2023. During that time, Sanchez allegedly sent several emails threatening to kill the judge and harm others connected to the court system, including attorneys, law enforcement officers, and court staff.
One message reportedly stated that he was more committed to murdering the judge than to being present as a father.
Federal authorities later arrested Sanchez in February 2024 when he attempted to enter the United States through San Diego.
Following a jury trial in December 2025, he was convicted of two counts of making threats using interstate or foreign communications.
In March 2026, the court sentenced him to 87 months in federal prison and ordered him to pay restitution.
